SAC/PTO
It can be confusing to distinguish between the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and the School Advisory Committee (SAC), as both are vital to the school but serve very different purposes.
Think of the PTO as the "hands and feet" that provide resources and fun, while the SAC is the "voice" that provides feedback and perspective on school operations.
🤝 Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)
The PTO is a volunteer-led group dedicated to enhancing the student and teacher experience through community building and fundraising.
-
The Focus: Organizing fun school events (like carnivals or dances), teacher appreciation weeks, and fundraising for "extras" like new playground equipment, technology, or field trips.
-
The Goal: To foster a close-knit school community and provide the financial support needed for programs that fall outside the standard school budget.
-
Why Join? If you love planning events, volunteering at the school, and seeing immediate smiles on students' faces, the PTO is your home.
🗣️ School Advisory Committee (PAC)
The SAC is a team of parents, teachers, staff, and community members who work together on the "big picture" of our school’s success. This committee is focused on school improvement and accountability.
- The Focus: Academic goals, school safety, the annual School Improvement Plan (SIP), and how school funds are allocated to reach those goals.
- The Goal: To provide a voice for all stakeholders in the decision-making process that shapes our school’s future.
-
Why Join? If you are interested in the "behind-the-scenes" of school policy and academic achievement, SAC is the perfect place for you.
